The Detroit Tigers were held to just four hits as they lost to the Oakland A's 6-1 Wednesday night at Comerica Park.   The loss extends the Tigers losing streak to six games. Anibal Sanchez was tagged with the loss, giving up four runs on five hits while issuing four walks in seven innings of work.  Miguel Cabrera doubled in Detroit's only run in the ninth inning. Detroit sends Shane Greene to the mound today against Oakland…12:40 on WBCK.

Bombers

The Bombers beat the Kenosha Kingfish 10-5 in the first of two games.  They go for the sweep tonight and then start and 8-game road trip on Friday.

College Softball

The U-of-M softball team came up short in their run for the national title, losing 4-1 to Florida in Game Three of the Women's College World Series Wednesday night in Oklahoma City.  The win gave Florida its second consecutive NCAA championship.

Michigan had its best world series finish since taking the title in 2005. They finished the season at 60-and-8.

NHL

The Chicago Blackhawks won game one of Stanley Cup series in Tampa, 2-1.

Teuvo Teravainen and Antoine Vermette scored 1:58 apart late in the third period.

Game Two is Saturday in Tampa.

Red Wings Coach

The Detroit Red Wings will name Grand Rapids Griffins coach Jeff Blashill as their new head coach next week.  Blashill, 41, will become the second-youngest head coach in the NHL, behind recently hired John Hynes of the New Jersey Devils, who is 40.  The Griffins were eliminated Tuesday in Game 6 of the AHL Western Conference finals by the Utica Comets.  Blashill likely will receive a three-year contract, since general manager Ken Holland has three years remaining on his deal.

NBA

The NBA Finals start tonight in Oakland as Golden State hosts Cleveland.

U of M’s Bivins Honored

Lakeview grad Jake Bivens is among three Michigan Wolverine baseball players named Louisville Slugger Freshman All-Americans. Bivens hit .319 and had a .435 on-base percentage that is sixth in the Big Ten.

Lions Sign Running Back

The Detroit Lions have re-signed undrafted rookie running back Rasheed Williams. Williams signed with Detroit in May, but was released because he was not able to attend organized team activities last month as he finished his final exams at Alfred State. He inked a deal yesterday and then took part in practice during OTAs at the Lions Allen Park facility. In his senior season, Williams rushed for 1,676 yards with 16 touchdowns.

Dantonio to Start MIS Race

Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio will serve as the Grand Marshal for the June 14 Quicken Loans 400 race at Michigan International Speedway. Dantonio, fresh off 2014 Rose Bowl and 2015 Cotton Bowl championships, said he is anxious to meet and interact with some of the NASCAR drivers.

Girls Soccer

The No. 2-ranked Gull Lake girls' soccer team plays in the Division 2 regional final at Vicksburg on Friday against Holland Christian.

Symetra Tournament

The second annual FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship, part of the Symetra Tour- Road to the LPGA, starts Friday at Battle Creek Country Club. The morning wave begins at 7:30 a.m. from the first and tenth tees. The afternoon wave begins at 12:20 p.m.

The field of 144 up-and-coming professionals will compete for their share of the $100,000 total tournament purse. The winner will earn $15,000.

Golf

Lakeview’s golf team has advanced to the State Finals at Ferris State Friday and Saturday.
