Stretching from New Buffalo to Detroit, Michigan's 175+ mile garage sale is a bargain-hunter's fantasy road trip come true.

Highway US-12 traverses Michigan from coast to coast on what used to be Indian trails from Lake Michigan to the Detroit River. It doesn't have a catchy slogan like "get your kicks on Route 66," but US-12 is famous for its annual 180 mile garage sale August 9-11.

Bargain hunters, pickers and collectors will find hand-me-down clothes, used furniture, empty picture frames, bargain CDs, outgrown shoes, discarded tools, abandoned board games, partial sets of dishes, camping gear that seemed like a good idea at the time, grass stained soccer cleats, like new lacrosse sticks and more all piled up for sale for pennies alongside the road. Of course, you'll find occasional antiques and some thrifty bargains if you have the patience and the stamina for an all day excursion.

Each year Michigan's Longest Garage Sale sees homeowners along US-12 clean out their attics and basements and stack the treasures in the front yard, stickered with dollars and cents. This sale is unique in that you may also find homemade jams and jelliles, fresh produce, even live entertainment! So, whether you call it a garage sale, yard sale, rummage sale, trash or treasure, this 180 mile adventure is sure to be a good one.
