Last season, the Tigers signed a couple of veteran starters that they hoped could still do the job.  Mike Fiers ended up being their best pitcher, before they dealt him to Oakland for some prospects.  Francisco Liriano didn't work out as well.  Now they're trying it again, signing veteran Matt Moore to a one year contract.

The 29 year old left-hander was an All Star for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2013, when he went 17-4 with a 3.29 ERA.  But after Tommy John surgery the next spring, he's been unable to regain that form, with the Rays, Giants and Rangers.   Moore finished last season strong with Texas.

“Matt is a veteran left-handed starting pitcher with a solid three-pitch mix that we see competing for a spot in our rotation next season,” said Tigers Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager, Al Avila. “He has the ability to effectively use the whole strike zone with his arsenal, and we’re excited for him to join our organization.”

With the signing of Moore, the Tigers 40-man roster is now at 38.
