An underage driver is in trouble after taking a late night drive and almost striking some police officers at high speed in Battle Creek. The 14-year-old female was reportedly driving her mother's vehicle at around 3:00 am early Wednesday morning. Four Battle Creek officers were near Harris Street after responding to an unrelated call when the teen was seen turning from Meachem Avenue to Harris Street at an estimated 45 miles per hour in a 25 mph zone.

The officers said they were nearly struck and yelled to the driver to stop the vehicle. When she pulled over, the girl told police she didn't have a license and provided a false identity. She was taken to the Calhoun County Juvenile Home and faces charges of obstructing police and driving without a license. She also received a ticket for careless driving. When the teen’s mother was interviewed, she said was sleeping and had no idea the vehicle was taken.
