Battle Creek City Police responded to the first block of Carlyle Street at approximately 8:30 PM, Thursday evening, to a report of a breaking and entering.

A business owner had entered his building and was confronted by an unknown male. The two began to fight when the suspect drew a handgun and fired at the owner. After firing one round, the suspect fled the building on foot.

The Battle Creek Police Department and Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office brought in K-9 units, but were unable to track down the gunman.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 5’ 11”, wearing a light colored T-shirt with “ATARI” on the front.

The business owner was not seriously injured and the case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Battle Creek Police Detectives or Silent Observer.
