Fire investigators in Battle Creek are trying to determine the cause of a fire that happened early Tuesday morning at a vacant home on the city's north side. Crews responded to the 100 block of Redner Ave. at around 12:45 am and discovered smoke seeping out from the front of the structure.

While investigating it was discovered the flames were coming from the basement area.  Firefighters were able to quickly get the blaze under control and limit the damage to that area of the home.

There were no individuals located inside the house and also no injuries were reported as a result of the fire. No damage estimate has been given or the extent of damage to the structure.

The Fire Marshal was called to the scene to help determine the cause of the fire. Officials have not been able to make a determination of the cause at this time.
