A woman is facing animal abandonment charges after police say she let two violent dogs loose in a Battle Creek neighborhood.

WWMT says the incident happened in late February, where a witness saw a woman pull up in her car on Hannah St. on Battle Creek’s east side and then release two dogs before driving away. An animal control officer responded and was speaking with the witness when the dogs approached them and started trying to attack the officer; the officer used pepper spray and a baton to fight the animals back, and when backup responded one of the dogs was captured while another ran off.

Later in the day, the other dog was captured at the Riverview Recreation Center. Both animals were taken to the Calhoun County Animal Shelter, and for now the animals will not be placed up for adoption as police say they were “vicious”.

Police are seeking charges of animal abandonment and letting vicious dogs to run loose against the woman involved.
