Residents of Bedford Township might soon see signatures being collected, to recall the township supervisor.

The Battle Creek Enquirer says that the Calhoun County Election Commission met Monday to consider a recall petition put forward by a citizen, for Supervisor Adam Heikkila. The petition claims Heikkila created a hostile environment for township employees and residents, and for “intimidating and threatening behavior”.

The recall was submitted by Kraig Dingman.

The Commission needed to review the recall language to determine if it was factual and clear, and they unanimously said it was; their vote was not to consider whether the allegations themselves had merit, however. Heikkila can appeal the decision, and says he does plan to do so.

He has 10 days to appeal, and the Calhoun County Circuit Court will review the appeal before making a decision within 40 days. If the courts say the recall can go forward, petitioners would need to collect 734 valid signatures for a recall election to be held.
