Democratic Presidential Hopefuls Promise Michigan Big Spending
Everyone loves free stuff, in reality they mean stuff paid by other people, and increases to their pay. That is why every election cycle politicians, meaning Democrats, make promises to us that they will give us free stuff and increases in pay to some people.
Well MLive published a well written piece detailing all of the “free” stuff Democratic Presidential hopefuls are promising Michiganders and the rest of the country.
Here they are in no particular order:
Give teachers a $13,500 raise - Kamala Harris
Harris pitched her plan to give the average teacher a $13,500 pay raise during a Detroit town hall organized with the American Federation of Teachers.
Cut taxes $6,000 for middle-class families - Kamala Harris
Harris put forward another big money policy promise while in Michigan. She outlined a plan to cut taxes for middle-class families.
Married couples filing jointly who earn less than $100,000 per year would be eligible for a $6,000 tax credit. Single-filers earning less than $50,000 per year would receive a $3,000 tax credit.
$1 trillion for infrastructure - Amy Klobuchar
Klobuchar wants to invest $1 trillion in infrastructure projects across the country. It's her top budget priority for the first year, if elected.
Give everyone $1,000 a month - Andrew Yang
If elected president, Yang would give every American $1,000 per month.
Free tuition at all public colleges and universities - Bernie Sanders
Sanders discussed many issues during an April rally at Macomb Community College, but drew enthusiastic applause when discussing his plan to provide tuition-free college and technical training.
"It is not a radical idea to say we are going to make public college (and) universities tuition-free," Sanders said.
Federal jobs guarantee - Bernie Sanders
Toward the end of his speech in Warren, Sanders briefly expressed support for a "federal jobs guarantee" while running through a list of ambitious policies.
"You know what that means? That means in this country from childcare, to rebuilding our infrastructure, to dealing with climate change, to healthcare, to education, there is an enormous amount of work to be done," Sanders said. "Let's put our people to work rebuilding America."
Now the question is; how exactly will we pay for all of this “free” stuff, raises and infrastructure projects?
I would be asking the same question if and when Republicans make promises like these.
The only good thing we have going for us when it comes to them mortgaging our children’s future is they are politicians and rarely make good on their promises.
