EEE: Pesticide Spraying To Resume In Calhoun County Thursday

Calhoun County Public Health has been informed by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services that areas 4-1 and 4-2 will be treated tonight (10/03/19) In Calhoun County, weather permitting.

Zone 4-1 is an area west of M-66 and north of I-94. While Zone 4-2 is east of Homer, and South of Albion. At this point, residents in Zones 4-3 and 4-4 should be prepared for treatment on or after Friday, October 4, 2019. Those in the defined areas will receive aerial treatment with the exception of those who opted out within 48-hours of scheduled treatment date.

On Wednesday, October 3, 2019, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services confirmed that a fourth person had died from EEE, this the first human EEE fatality in Calhoun County.  So far, there have been nine confirmed human cases in Michigan and four fatalities. In addition, there have been 33 animal cases in 15 counties.

So far, the state has confirmed nine human cases of EEE in six counties: Barry, Berrien, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo and Van Buren.

The Calhoun County resident’s death came nearly two weeks after the MDHHS confirmed the resident was sickened by EEE.

To date, total treated acreage is 186,146. Areas completed to date include Area 3-1 in Berrien County, Areas 5-1 and 5-2 in Cass County, Areas 12-1, 12-2 and 12-3 in St. Joseph County and 13-1 in Van Buren County. Area 2-1 in Barry County has been partially completed.
