A gas leak led to some residents being evacuated late Monday night in Albion.

The Albion Department of Public Safety says that sometime before 10:30pm Monday, lightning struck a tree in the area of the 1000 block of Hall St between North and Broadwell, causing a gas main to rupture under the street.

The ADPS says on their Facebook page that homes in the immediate vicinity were evacuated as a precaution, but that there was “very little, if any” danger to those in the area.

SEMCO Energy was on the scene overnight to repair the damage.
