A Philanthropist and wife of a Grand Rapids businessman has passed away.

WOODTV reports that the family of Helen DeVos says early Thursday that she died at the age of 90. DeVos was born in 1927 as Helen Van Wesep, and grew up in the Grand Rapids area, graduating from Calvin College with a Bachelor of Arts.

She married businessman Richard DeVos in 1953, a few years before he went on to co-found Amway; in the following years, they would grow to be one of the most influential families in West Michigan. Her name is probably most recognizable for adorning the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, which the couple donated to in large numbers.

A cause of death was not given.

Helen is survived by her husband Rich, and her four children, 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was the mother-in-law of US Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.
