Volunteers are needed for the 18th annual Krazy for the Kazoo River Conservation Day event next month in Battle Creek. Those involved will help clean up trash, debris, tires, and invasive species that can affect water quality. This year’s event also needs volunteers to form a “Green Team,” which will assist in achieving a zero waste event. The Green Team will help participants sort waste generated from breakfast and lunch into recyclable, compostable, and landfill bins. It also may sort items collected during the event to be cleaned and recycled, in an effort to divert waste from landfills.

The event takes place on Saturday, October 6th. Volunteers will meet to check in at 8am at C.O. Brown Stadium in Bailey Park. After a brief opening ceremony, those helping will clean up their assigned work sites. All volunteers will receive snacks and coffee before the cleanup, lunch afterward, and a gift.

The event is coordinated and sponsored by the Battle Creek Area Clean Water Partners, comprised of the City of Battle Creek, City of Springfield, Calhoun County Water Resources Commissioner, townships of Bedford, Emmett, Leroy, Newton and Pennfield, Battle Creek area schools, Kellogg Community College, and the Hart-Dole-Inouye Federal Center.
