Police in Marshall are investigating a possible case of door-to-door fraud this week.

The Marshall Police Department says that on Wednesday they were called to the 500 block of 18 ½ Mile Rd. by a 70-year-old woman, who said a subject came to her door and claimed to be from Consumers Energy. The woman says she felt the subject was trying to sell her a service, and had her sign a form before they left.

Officers searched around, but were unable to find the individual or individuals or identify which company they were from. The MPD says that door to door solicitation without a permit is a crime in the City of Marshall.

If you see someone going door to door, you’re asked to report the incident to the Marshall Police Department dispatch.

According to ChooseEnergy.com, door-to-door energy scams are on the rise. They typically involve someone pretending to be from your energy provider, who either wants to look at your bill to secretly change your provider, trick you into switching companies with what sounds like a good deal, or claim that you owe the company a fee which you need to pay immediately.
