Improvements Coming To Downtown Battle Creek Intersection With Federal Funds

The City of Battle Creek is set to enter into a contract to improve a major downtown intersection.

On the Battle Creek City Commission’s agenda for their meeting tomorrow is a resolution which will authorize the City Manager to enter the contract with the Michigan Department of Transportation for safety improvements at the intersection of Michigan Ave. and Capital Ave. The plan is to fix up the concrete curb and gutter, the sidewalk ramp, and to upgrade the traffic signal.

The cost is expected to be at $328,000, with all but $3,000 of that being paid with Federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Funds; the rest of the cost will be covered by the City of Battle Creek. According to the US Department of Transpiration's Federal Highway Administration, between $2.3 and $2.5 billion is provided in CMAQ funding each year nationwide.

It’s not known when the project might get underway or when it’ll be completed once the resolution is approved.
