Woman Accused Of Financially Abusing Disabled Battle Creek Man
A woman could be facing jail time after she allegedly took advantage of a mentally disabled Battle Creek man.
The Battle Creek Enquirer reports that on Sunday the 37-year-old man, who had been reported missing, was discovered at Lakeview Square Mall carrying merchandise worth over $500, accompanied by a 43-year-old Chicago woman. The woman told police she had met the man at the bus station, and that he had been following her around for a few days.
It was discovered that the two had been staying at a hotel, and more merchandise valued at over $1,000 was found in the hotel room. Police believe the woman had been using the man for financial gain; they say that he has the mental facilities of a 12-year-old.
She faces charges of abuse of a vulnerable adult, larceny by conversion and obstruction of police.
