DETROIT (AP) — Detroit police say a speeding driver who was fleeing police struck and killed two children and injured three other children and an adult.
Police Chief James Craig tells reporters that police began chasing a car with a firearms suspect Wednesday evening but later backed off. Craig says the car then struck the children and an adult on the city's east side.
Craig says the five children and the adult were taken to St. John Hospital, where two of the children were declared dead.
Craig says police arrested two people from the car, one of whom had non-life threatening injuries. Craig says one of the suspects had a handgun.
