The left lane of eastbound I-94 at Beadle Lake Road will be closed and a power outage at the traffic light at West Columbia Avenue and South LaVista Boulevard will cause headaches for drivers in the Battle Creek area today.
According to Consumers Energy, over 155,000 customers were without power Friday morning; the vast majority of those customers are in the Grand Rapids, Ionia, Cedar Springs and Belding areas.
Two house fires Friday afternoon in Battle Creek broke out and kept firefighters busy. In both of these incidents, no one was injured despite the homes being occupied.
Consumers Energy is asking all customers to reduce their natural gas usage for the next 24 to 48 hours after a fire at a key facility in Macomb County Wednesday morning.
According to Consumers Energy's Outage Map, around 10:30am Wednesday the outage affected customers along 20th St. in Battle Creek, between Columbia Ave. and the I-94 Business Loop. The outage extended into the Springfield area to the northwest, and along Goguac St. eastward to Meachem.
