The incident started around 11:45pm Saturday, as a Calhoun County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Capital Ave. near Bailey Park for a traffic violation.
The chase began after Emmett Township officers were called to a medical emergency, but the driver sped off when they arrived, reportedly striking a medic on the scene.
These arrests are the culmination of a six month investigation into the trafficking of methamphetamine into Michigan; it’s alleged that over 400 pounds of meth was brought into the area from California over the past two years, with a large portion of that product being manufactured in Mexico.
Authorities say that the ring was in charge of a scheme to distribute and sell meth in west Michigan, and nearly 17 pounds of meth and five firearms have been seized as a result.
The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office says they received a tip that a methamphetamine lab was located at a residence in the 900 block of Capital Ave. NE in Pennfield Township. As a result of the tip, Sheriff's Deputies executed a search warrant to the residence around 3am Monday.
