A motorcycle rider had to be airlifted to the hospital Thursday evening after a crash in southern Calhoun County.

The Michigan State Police Marshall Post says that the accident took place on M-60 near 15 Mile Rd. in Tekonsha Township, around 6pm Thursday. The driver of a motorcycle ended up crashing and getting badly hurt, after he had to avoid hitting a vehicle that turned into his lane as they were turning into a business.

With help from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department, Tekonsha Fire Department, Homer Fire Department, and Marshall Fire and Ambulance, an Air Care helicopter was dispatched and the victim was airlifted to the hospital. According to the Calhoun County Emergency Network, a spot in the parking lot of the nearby TA service station had to be made clear so Air Care could land.

The driver was not identified by law enforcement.

The MSP says that the driver is now in good condition at the hospital, and is expected to recover.
