Battle Creek police arrest a 25-year-old woman on charges of assault with intent to commit great bodily harm less than murder and weapons violations after a 27-year-old man was shot in a leg following an argument.

Battle Creek police responded at 11:22 p.m. Monday to a shooting that took place in the first block of Lathrop Avenue.

The man said he returned home from work early because his girlfriend was accusing him of having an affair, about a month after the girlfriend had given birth to their child, according to the Battle Creek Enquirer.

The girlfriend allegedly told police that another woman was pregnant by her boyfriend. The girlfriend went on to say the two began arguing while her sister was present and that she asked him to leave the home.

The man attempted to gather his things when his girlfriend and her sister allegedly tried forcing him out, leading to all parties involved arguing. The mother of the two women involved alleges that the man then began assaulting the two women and threatening to leave and return with friends to kill them.

As the situation moved to the yard of the home, the women say the man appeared to grab something from the waistband of his pants, as if he had a gun. The 25-year-old sister then pulled out a hand gun and shot the man in the leg.

The mans mother came and drove the man to Bronson Battle Creek for treatment.

The the 25-year-old sister later went to the police station, surrendered her weapon and was placed under arrest.
