A 32-year-old Battle Creek woman is likely to face charges after she allegedly left her 3-year-old son home alone while she went out gambling.

The Battle Creek Enquirer reports that police say that they were originally called to the first block of N. Union St. Monday morning, after a neighbor said she saw a 3-year-old boy yelling from the second floor of a home for his mother. Police arrived and found the back door unlocked, and found the child alone, before turning him over to Child Protective Services.

Shortly after, the BCPD learned that the child’s mother had been arrested at the Firekeeper’s Casino by tribal police for drunk and disorderly conduct. The woman allegedly told police that she had left the child in the care of another woman.

The woman was taken into custody, and could be arraigned on child abuse charges.
