The City of Battle Creek could be funding the cost of fixing a stretch of road in a condominium complex south of Lakeview High School.

The Battle Creek City Commission will be considering Tuesday night a resolution which would authorize the city to fix up Woodhaven Dr, and then levy a special assessment on the nine vacant lots of the road to pay for the rehabilitation. According to the City’s meeting agenda, developer Classic American Land Dev II LLC began construction on the Woodlands at Cherry Wood condominiums in 2007, and constructed several streets in the area on which homes were built; for the most part, the streets in the development were constructed properly.

However, due to the economic downturn that occurred right around that time they did not construct the last street, Woodhaven Dr, “to the proper standards” and as a result it has further deteriorated. The City says that if they properly fix up this street, it will attract people to purchase those vacant lots and “further residential development”.

The cost to repair Woodhaven is almost $30,000, which would be paid for by the owners of the land over 10 years.
