The City of Battle Creek could be entering into an agreement with the Michigan Department of Transportation to help community residents that need transportation services.

The Battle Creek City Commission is meeting Tuesday and one of the items they will vote on is a resolution to enter into a project agreement with MDOT for a Calhoun County Coordinated Mobility Grant; the grant will entirely cover the costs of a twelve-month pilot program with Battle Creek Transit. The program is going to provide centralized dispatch and a mobility management model, which would allow for countywide demand-response service; BCT is partnering with Community Action and Aequitas Mobility Services to give on-demand transportation to get people to their job, to their doctors appointments, or other “basic needs trips”.

The goal of the pilot program is to demonstrate that coordination between the Transit Department and other community organizations can increase public transportation options to the people of Calhoun County.
