Battle Creek Man Killed In Barry County Crash Sunday
A blast of winter weather sweeping through Western Michigan caused several accidents and slide-offs, including one that left a Battle Creek man dead.
WOODTV says that the accident took place on M-37 near 108th St. and Parmalee Rd. in Barry County’s Thornapple Township around 2pm Sunday. The accident happened when an SUV, driven by a 19-year-old from Middleville, crossed the center line and struck a minivan head-on.
The driver of the minivan, a 79-year-old from Battle Creek, was killed, while the 77-year-old woman and 9-year-old girl in his vehicle were sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The teen driving the SUV wasn’t hurt.
The accident shut down the highway for some time while the Michigan State Police investigated; it eventually reopened after 5pm.
Authorities say that right now, it appears that speed and the weather played roles in the crash. Michigan got hit Sunday with the tail-end of a massive blast of winter weather that swept through the central and Midwestern portions of the United States over the weekend.
