It’s been a few months since the last one, but another national retailer has announced they will be closing their Battle Creek location.

On Thursday, Sears Holdings, the parent company of Sears and Kmart, announced that 45 Kmart stores and 18 Sears stores would be closed nationwide; for Battle Creek, that means our Kmart on Capital Ave. is slated to close in January 2018. The city’s Sears in Lakeview Square Mall will remain open for now. The company says the store closings are part of an effort to “right size our store footprint” by closing unprofitable stores.

Two other Kmart’s are closing in Michigan, one in Clinton Township and another in Mt. Pleasant.
