Low-level marijuana offenses are no longer going to be prosecuted here in Calhoun County, two weeks after Michigan’s voters voiced their opinion on the issue.

The Battle Creek Enquirer says that Calhoun County Prosecutor David Gilbert announced on Monday that his office would no longer pursue cases for violations that will be legal once Proposal 1 becomes law; that includes possessing up to 2.5 ounces of weed on your person, 10 ounces in a secured place in your home, and 12 plants grown for personal use.

Both the Battle Creek Police Department and the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office also say they will no longer be seeking charges for minor marijuana possession, although they will still go after things not allowed by Prop 1, such as use of the plant by those under 21 or the sale of it.

Last week, Kalamazoo County's Prosecutor made a similar announcement.

Marijuana will officially become legalized here in Michigan 10 days after the state Board of Canvassers certifies the election results.
