The City of Battle Creek and the Calhoun County/Greater Battle Creek Homeless Coalition will be conducting their annual census of homeless individuals next week.

The City says that workers and volunteers will be going throughout the community from January 31 to February 2, and speaking with people not only in shelters but those who are staying in atypical locations. Outreach efforts will be taking place from the Share Center, Emmett Street Missionary Church, the area Continuum of Care program and more.

The stated goal is to not only complete a census required by the federal government, but to provide an opportunity for citizens to learn more about what is being done to fight the problems homeless people face.
