A 56-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle on West Michigan Avenue, around 1:50 AM Saturday morning, in Bedford Township.

Calhoun County Dispatched had received a call of a man standing in the roadway waving his hands at a vehicle which then turned onto a side street. Shortly after that call, they received a call concerning the accident. When Battle Creek City Police arrived on the scene, they found the man lying in the roadway and then pronounced him dead on the scene.

Authorities believe the victim, who was wearing dark clothing, was standing in a dimly lit area of West Michigan Avenue when he was struck by a westbound vehicle driven by a 40-year-old man, who was treated for minor injuries.

Authorities continue to investigate the accident and believe the victim may have been intoxicated. The name of the victim is not being released until the next of kin are notified.
