The Battle Creek Police Department has issued a warning after some citizens reported getting phone calls from people pretending to be officers.

The BCPD says that according to reports, these scammers will say they are from the police department of sheriff’s department, and they request a donation, either via credit card or by direct access to bank account information. Authorities say that this type of call is a scam, and if you receive a call like this you are asked to keep your information private, and contact the BCPD.

This new type of scam is similar to ones we’ve heard of before in Calhoun County; back in 2016, area law enforcement said scammers were calling homes and claiming that the resident had a warrant out for their arrest, and then demanding money to get the warrant removed.
