Stolen Car Tracked Down With Cell Phone App In Battle Creek
A Battle Creek man was arrested early Saturday morning after he allegedly stole a vehicle from a parking lot.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says that around 12:47am Saturday, they were called to a business in the 800 block of North Ave. in Pennfield Township, after a victim says an unknown man jumped into their vehicle and drove off. Deputies learned that the victim’s cell phone was still in the vehicle, so a phone app was used to track the vehicle to an apartment complex on Arbor Point Dr. near Jackson St. in the City of Battle Creek.
A K-9 unit tracked the suspect’s scent to a specific apartment in the complex, and the male suspect inside was located and arrested. The 22-year-old Battle Creek man is lodged in the Calhoun County Jail on a charge of Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile.
Right now, the suspect's name is being withheld until he is arraigned.
