A major street in Battle Creek will get a refurbishing beginning Wednesday that should last a week.

Resolutions passed which would authorize the Calhoun County Road Department to seek funding assistance for the repair, rehabilitation, or replacement of those 'priority' bridges.

The Emmett Township Committee for Better Roads has now announced that they will be holding six informational meetings over the next month to help make their case for passing the proposal

The Calhoun County Road Department says on their Facebook that they are aware of the problem, which is caused by the ground thawing and further worsened by the rain we have been getting. However, they cannot deal with the “muddy mess” until the road surface has thawed and dried out, as the partially frozen ground prevents the road surface from being graded.

During this period, trucks traveling on "restricted" roads in Calhoun County need to travel slower, and carry loads 35% lighter than usual.

Tommy Miller has been a road worker with the Calhoun County Road Department for 14 years, and wanted to keep doing so, but he was told it wasn't allowed.

The Calhoun County Road Department says that a new snowplow tracker is in operation, and allows people to see where the county’s plow trucks have been within the past three hours.

A grant from the Michigan Department of Transportation to fix up a road in Calhoun County is designed to help support economic development. MDOT says in a release that the Transportation Economic Development Fund grant will go towards repairing a stretch of F Drive North in Emmett Township, where Flex-N-Gate Battle Creek is located.
