At the Albion City Council meeting Tuesday night, the agenda states that a 2nd reading and approval of the ordinance will be considered, and if it is approved it could be in effect by mid-March. Under Albion’s proposed ordinance, medical marijuana dispensaries would not be allowed, but up to 20 total growers, processors, testers and transporters could open.
For the second time this week, a Calhoun County municipality has approved ordinances that allow for medical marijuana businesses to set up shop. At their meeting Thursday, the Bedford Township Board of Trustees passed unanimously the two ordinances, which allow medical marijuana dispensaries, growers, processors, testers and transporters to operate in the township.
At the Battle Creek City Commission meeting Tuesday night, two ordinances regarding the zoning and licensing of medical marijuana growers, testers, processors, transporters and dispensaries were voted on. Mayor Mark Behnke tells 95.3 WBCK that the ordinances passed 8-0, with Vice Mayor Dave Walters absent.
According to the City of Battle Creek’s agenda for their February 6 meeting, the city will discuss adopting a pair of ordinances that allows for the zoning of medical marijuana growers, processors, testers, transporters and dispensaries within city limits, and also allows businesses to become licensed.
The zoning ordinance had been set to be introduced last month, but it was delayed, with officials saying the two ordinances should be introduced and voted on at the same time.
The ordinances will be introduced Tuesday, and it would allow for Growers, Processors, Transporters, Testers, and End-user Sellers of medical marijuana, in various zoning districts throughout Battle Creek. This package of ordinances passed the Planning Commission this week, in a 5-2 vote.
Results of a medical marijuana survey conducted by the City of Battle Creek are now in.
The City says Tuesday that over 700 responses were made, either online or through paper copies, and that 82 percent of respondents said they live in the city.
The City of Battle Creek is asking for the public to provide input on possible medical marijuana ordinances.
Throughout October, an online survey is being circulated by the City on whether or not Battle Creek should allow the growing, processing, distributing and selling of medical marijuana within city limits.
