Just over a year after downtown Battle Creek welcomed its first tattoo shop, another is planning on opening.

Cereal City Tattoo & Piercing opened on W Columbia Ave. across from the former Hunt Club in 2015, and has been a popular destination for those seeking body modification ever since. The Battle Creek Enquirer says that owners Tracy and Tom Smith have now purchased the building at 46 W Michigan Ave. next to the Griffin Grill & Pub in downtown, that formerly housed Pearlman's Jewelers.

With the increase in space they will get with the new building, they plan on hiring more tattoo artists, piercers, and a few cosmetic tattoo artists. According to The Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals, Cosmetic Tattooing is the process of getting tattoos that imitate the appearance of traditional makeup or cosmetics, and are also referred to as "permanent makeup".

Cereal City Tattoo looks to be operating in the downtown space by May.

When they move in, Cereal City Tattoo will be joining Mid-Town Tattoo Studio, which opened in early 2018. Mid-Town was actually founded by artist Jackie Westover, who previously worked at Cereal City Tattoo before opening her own business with her husband Jesse.
