A crash between a sedan and a semi-truck in the Battle Creek area Wednesday morning resulted in three teens getting hurt.

According to the Emmett Township Department of Public Safety, the accident took place around 7:06am Wednesday on E. Columbia Ave. near Inn Rd, next to D'nicio's Parlor and Lucky Rooster. They say preliminary investigation shows that a sedan, occupied by "three high-school aged students", had been heading westbound on E. Columbia when it lost control on the snowy roads. It was then struck "broadside" by a semi-truck.

According to the EDPS, all three teens were injured; two suffered minor injuries while the third appears to have suffered critical injury. It appears the semi truck's driver wasn't hurt.

Just before 9am, it was estimated that the stretch of E. Columbia would remain closed for about 45 minutes as accident reconstruction was carried out. The crash closed down the road and backed up traffic extensively.

We will update this story with more information as it comes in.
