Two 23 year old male suspects from Battle Creek are in custody following a drive by shooting in Battle Creek Tuesday morning.  Authorities responded to an area near West Goguac and South Washington around 11:45 a.m., where a 27-year-old victim sustained a gunshot wound to the back. Shots were fired from a passing vehicle as the 27 year old female victim was trying to get several small children inside. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment. She was conscious and talking to officers and was taken to an area hospital by LifeCare with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities believe a 24 year old man with the female victim was the intended target. Police located and interviewed the 24 year old man and he was arrested and lodged on unrelated charges as well as firearm violations from this incident. A stolen gun was recovered from his possession. It was also reported that he fired a gun back at the two suspects after being shot at, but they were not hit.  It appears this shooting stemmed from an argument the three men had earlier in the day.

The victim and witnesses were cooperative, providing suspect information, which led police to a house on Arthur St. where the suspects had abandoned their getaway car, a white four-door sedan.  Area surveillance video showed the suspects getting into a silver Cadillac SUV that left the area. A search warrant was executed with help from the Calhoun County Sheriff Department at the house where the car was found, but no evidence besides the car was found and it is not believed the resident was involved.

Battle Creek Detectives and Calhoun Central Dispatch were able to track the suspects west on I-94.  The Michigan State Police 5th District Fugitive Team and Highway Team were contacted and within minutes located the suspects.  Both men, 23 and from Battle Creek, were arrested without incident.  They are being lodged at the Calhoun County Jail on Assault with Intent to Murder charges.

Due to the cooperation between the public and multiple law enforcement agencies, a stolen gun and two dangerous men were quickly apprehended.
