An Albion man was arrested Tuesday morning, after he allegedly attempted to smuggle drugs into jail.

The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office says that around 10am Tuesday, February 21, deputies at the jail learned that a man at the jail for a probation hearing possibly had heroin on his person. Deputies confronted the 24-year-old, and he did admit to carrying drugs.

The man said that he expected to be sent to jail by his probation officer, and since he suffers from a serious heroin addiction, he was afraid of the detox period. Authorities say the man then removed heroin and analogues that had been hidden in his rectum.

The man was arrested for a bond violation, and charges related to the narcotics are also expected to be filed.
