Battle Creek’s Thomas Swarmes Sentenced For Rape Conviction
Calhoun County Circuit Court Judge John Hallacy told a man
in his courtroom that he is the one everyone in this world is
afraid of. The Judge was talking yesterday to 35 year old Thomas Swarmes of Battle
Creek. He’s the man convicted in October of sexually assaulting a young
Swarmes is being sentenced to two consecutive terms of 25 to 50 years.
An additional term of 25-50 will be served concurrently, along with a shorter
sentence of about 7-15 years. Judge Hallacy told Swarmes he hoped he does not
live long enough to become a free man. The case against Swarmes was developed by the Calhoun County Sexual Assault rape Kit investigations. This followed the State Attorney Generals office discovering more than 1,800 untested rape kits around the state. The trial of Swarmes included graphic and troubling testimony from his victim,
who is now 19.
